QUICK THOUGHT
Extremes.
Dichotomy is convenient because it is easier to label absolutes. We hear it everywhere and all the time; as if we must pick a side and then defend our decision no matter what it takes. “Social Media is Bad for Mental Health”, “Any Pain is Bad Pain”, “Immigrants are Taking Our Jobs”. Sounds familiar?
But real talk, this black and white viewpoint just doesn’t cut it. Life’s complicated, and we miss out on all the important details when we don’t recognize the shades of gray. Take social media, for example – sure, it can be a minefield for mental health, but it’s also where we find our people and build community. And pain? Yeah, it sucks, but it’s also our body’s way of telling us something’s up.

The world is neither just black nor white — we live in full color. We need to embrace a more nuanced understanding of the world and keep asking questions. Let’s be curious, explore all the angles, and understand the real story before we drop our verdict. Because when we do, we find solutions that actually work and make our world a better place.

Origin Story
At the end of the day, I am a medical doctor, with a personal mission to advocate for adolescent health.
As a young physician, I have worked in a grassroots rural community in the Philippines under the Doctors to the Barrios initiative of the government. My eyes have been opened to the harsh realities that the more disadvantaged communities face in terms of healthcare. I have become cognizant of the health systems problems that public health practitioners, whom there are not enough of, are trying to address.
These are things that I cannot simply unsee or unlearn and definitely not something that I am willing to turn a blind eye on. I am definitely serious when I say, I want to be the change that I want to see happen! My public health work with local government units in my home country is something that I am proud of and will always be my main hugot* for the rest of my medical career.
